Lake Forest Dermatology Patient Information

How Our Office is Different

Direct-Pay: We are a direct-pay practice. This means we do not contract with insurance companies or Medicare. This allows us to devote more time to caring for our patients and spend less time on burdensome administrative paperwork and billing. The result is shorter wait times for our patients and longer, less-rushed visits with the doctor.

See the Doctor at Every Appointment: At Lake Forest Dermatology, you will be seen by the Board-Certified Dermatologist every time. Dr. Downes does not employ lesser-trained physician assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), aestheticians, or nurse injectors because she wants her patients to receive care from an expert.

Dr. Downes performs all procedures herself, whether it's skin surgeries, laser procedures, or Botox/Dysport injections. Read here about the 8 years of medical school and residency training that Board-Certified Dermatologists undergo and compare it to the training of PAs and NPs. https://www.aad.org/public/find-a-dermatologist/why-see-a-board-certified-dermatologist

Patient Volume: At most practices dermatologists see 30 to 60 patients per day, and sometimes more than that. At Lake Forest Dermatology, the doctor spends on average more time with each patient so that doctor visits are less rushed. On average she sees up to 15 patients per day.

Paper Charts: Lake Forest Dermatology utilizes paper charts. That way the doctor can talk to her patients face-to-face rather than typing on a computer. Paper charts are safer than electronic medical records since they cannot be hacked from outsiders trying to steal patients' personal information.

Wait Times: We are usually able to schedule patients for same-day, same-week, and next-week appointments. Our goal is to run on time with less than 15-minute waits in our office.

Medicare Patients

Lake Forest Dermatology is not contracted with Medicare. Medicare patients who receive care in our office are charged the same fees that our non-Medicare patients are charged. Payment is due in full at the time of service. Your receipt may be kept for tax purposes, but Medicare does not allow you to submit your receipt to Medicare or to your secondary insurance for reimbursement purposes.

Insurance Office Fees

Our office requires payment in full at the time of your appointment. While we are not contracted with any insurance carriers, we will be happy to assist you in submitting claims for medically necessary services. We will provide you with an itemized medical statement that can be sent to your insurance company for reimbursement according to your plan. If you have any questions about the cost of a procedure or insurance billing, please feel free to call the office (847) 615-8700. We will be happy to assist you.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that juggling a busy schedule may sometimes cause one to forget and miss an appointment. This unfortunately causes scheduling and time-allocation problems for our office and also denies another patient timely access to our office.

If you cannot keep an appointment, we kindly request you cancel with at least one business day's notice. Except for cases of emergency, you will be charged the full price of your appointment if you do not show or if you cancel without giving one business day's notice.
